Chronicle, 2020- 2023

216 mixed media drawings on paper, 10 x 10 inches each

Exhibition Installation: at Wilding Cran Gallery, Los Angeles. 2023.

This project began as a survival technique during isolated periods of the pandemic. Themes chronicled: Viral spread, Fibonacci, Woven baskets, Landscape observations, Dreams, and Motifs (statistics and dates on verso). Supported by a grant from The Center for Cultural Innovation
Excerpted from curator jill moniz’s essay: “Fran was chronicling her emotional and intellectual responses to the historic, global moment. It felt right that her expressive documentation of days and events utilized her pinwheel motif as it also approximated the virus itself. I am particularly drawn to how she unpacks the trade routes and histories from East to west of porcelain. What began with symbols and motifs expanded into the material itself that she incorporates in her works as armatures. These slip cast elements visually hold up her textiles but also add dimension and a certain tension to the various fabrics she sews together to reunify all the ideas she has explored.”
